Summer Youth Development Institute
College Factory is hosting its first Summer Youth Development Institute, an exciting six-week summer program that aims to help students prepare for their future by exposing them to postsecondary options such as college, careers, military, or starting their own business as an entrepreneur.
Our program will be a blend of fun and engaging camp style activities and post-secondary support. Participating students will receive direct tutoring support in the areas of math and reading, both primary components of the SAT as well as general test taking strategies. Additionally, we will help students navigate the college application process, and create student portfolios that include updated resumes, scholarships, community service, and financial aid information. Each week we will have community leaders and guest speakers come and share their experiences with participants, and we have planned weekly field trips to colleges and places of business to expose students to their many options. By the end of the program students will have built a strong network of supporters, and have the material they need to pursue whichever post-secondary path they choose.
The program is open to rising 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students and will be held Monday-Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Athens Community Career Academy (ACCA) from June 6 (Tuesday) through July 13 (Thursday). We will provide students with breakfast and lunch each day. There will also be weekly incentives for students that participate in the program. If you have any questions please email our program coordinator, Dy’Amond Mc Ghee, at dyamond@collegefactory.org
