HISTORY
College Factory was officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in March 2014. The idea for the organization stemmed from Founder, Lawrence Harris' work as a College Adviser at Clarke Central High School in Athens, Ga. Although Lawrence had a love for college advising, he quickly realized there was not enough time during a school day to do adequate and equitable college planning without continuously pulling students from class. An idea began to form that would ultimately lead to what College Factory is today.
The charter board members of College Factory chose to capitalize on a resource that is readily available in many cities across the nation - caring, passionate, and experienced undergraduate and graduate students. With so many college students enrolled at the local colleges and universities, it appeared that these students (along with other passionate individuals) could help coach high school students and their families, and make sure they had what they needed to be accepted and succeed once they entered college. After a year of research and program development at the University of Pennsylvania, the College Factory program in Athens, Ga was launched.
College Factory offers high school aged students access to college coaching and test prep. Additionally, the program delivers community workshops with college access and retention goals.
